Hi Matt – In case you see this — I saw your posting about Shochan which is very helpful for my own research. I wonder why you say that Herge could not possibly have known about Shochan no boken. From what I understand there was tons of cultural exchange happening between Japan and Europe, especially France, and certainly artists from both countries had been directly influencing each other for decades. The striking similarity between Shochan and Tintin is just too remarkable to ignore, both in style and subject matter…
